Stone Cold

1) Character types:

Link is a growing round character because he experiences a situation that he hasn't before and is aiming to overcome it. He learns about homelessness on his own skin and becomes independent, but he also meets new people that can affect his success.

'The new me. That's what I was thinking. I don't need anyone. Solo and coping, right? Right.'

'You learn, Gail. That's all.'

I think Louise (gail) is a round character or an archetype. She seems to be a growing character until the very end when she is revealed. Except for writing an article, I don't think Louise has changed too much or grown. It's an everyday thing for her. As 'Gail' she seems to be a growing character but we don't know much about Louise.

I think Vince has an over-the-top characteristic which is being 'evil' but I would call him an archetype because Link also talk about his other characteristics. He's only motive is to knock Link out, who dosn't accept/like having him aroung his mom.

'Vincen't to blame for that'

'He's about fifty for a start, and he's one of those old dudes that wear cool gear and try to act young  and it dosn't work because they've got grey hair and fat bellies and they just make them self's pathetic.'

'Vince likes his ale'

2. Stone cold. Link is a young guy who couldn't take his family so he ended up on the streets. His life is spiraling downwards, but he is a growing character. At first, he depended on Ginger, who helped him get started. But later on, he took his life in his own hands, 'the new me' and experienced situations that have teached him lessons. 'You learn, Gail. That's all.' He learned how to tap, sleep rough, find his way around, and how the world of homelessness works. 'If you think sleeping rough's just a matter of finding a dry spot where the fuzz won't move you on and getting you're head down, you're wrong.' He knows all about it. Link's situation isn't a comfortable one, but he is aiming for more and growing along the way. No matter how unfortunate, he is a growing character.

3. 'Stone cold' Link from the book and other rough sleepers in the article have similarities and differences. Neither of them decided to live on the streets, but they're there for different reasons. The article said that many of homeless people in London have health problems that hospitals won't take care of so they end up on the street. Link wasn't forced to live on the streets. He didn't have health problems, he just wanted a new life, away from his family. The article asks the readers to not give money to rough sleepers because they might use it for drugs and alchohl. Link dosn't have any of this in mind, he tries to earn money for food. Both Link and other rough sleepers move from time to time as they don't have a fixed place to live.
